I liked the flexibility so that I can work around my family. I have two boys, ages 14 and 17. With this program, I can do my work late at night and on the weekends. I considered traditional programs, but I did not want to go to class.

What is CalStateTEACH Really Like?

1.
Once admitted, you’ll receive detailed registration materials explaining a variety of procedures.

2.
You will work in a K-12 classroom either as a student teacher or as an intern.

3.
Just before your program begins, you will receive a box of books and materials.

4.
You will attend a day-long Saturday orientation seminar conducted at a location near you. There you’ll meet your Regional Director, regional faculty and fellow students. You’ll learn everything you need to know in order to get started.

5.
Throughout the program you will log on to our unique program website to access the online study guide (term 1 activity example) and communicate with fellow students and faculty with e-mail, discussion boards, and chat rooms.

6.
You will spend about 15-20 hours per week working on CalStateTEACH assignments outside of the work you do teaching in your classroom.

7.
In addition to the initial Saturday orientation seminar, you will participate in four more Saturday seminars throughout the 16-month program. You'll attend a sixth Saturday seminar to review material in preparation for the Reading Instruction Competency Assessment (RICA).

8.
Your assigned CSU faculty member will visit you at least once a month to observe and assist you. Your on-site mentor is available to help you on a regular basis.

9.
You will complete assignments organized into essential learning outcomes to demonstrate your academic achievements. Your academic, on-line and classroom performance are evaluated by your assigned faculty member. You'll also complete a portfolio at the conclusion of term 4 to showcase your achievements.
